Events that began on the map

Noxmap was a web and mobile application prototype for preparing city games, orienteering events, educational trails and other activities using field checkpoints and participant interaction.

Project origins

From a paper map to a digital event

Noxmap began with orienteering and outdoor games. Organisers of such events often register participants manually, print maps and answer sheets, check results and have limited contact with people in the field.

Noxmap was intended to bring these tasks together in one configurable system. The aim was not an application for one particular game, but a tool adaptable to many kinds of events.

One system, two perspectives

Two sides of one event

Organiser

In the web dashboard, an organiser prepared an event, configured maps, points, questions and forms, and could observe teams and review incoming answers during the game.

Event flow

How Noxmap worked

The prototype guided the organiser from configuration to summary, linking field preparation with the live event.

    Event creation

    The organiser defined its name, description, location, date, participation rules, team limits and available features.

  2. 02

    Registration form

    A custom questionnaire could specify which data was required from the entire team and from each participant.

  3. 03

    Map, points and boundaries

    The organiser added maps, checkpoints, questions and event areas, including the option to use a custom map graphic.

  4. 04

    Live event overview

    The dashboard made it possible to follow team statuses, last locations, answers and SOS notifications.

  5. 05

    Final report

    After the event, forms, answer sheets and verification results could be reviewed and exported as a report.

Connecting the dashboard, server and app

The prototype consisted of a web dashboard for the organiser, a server with an API and real-time communication, and a mobile app for the participant. Event, map, point, answer and location data was synchronised between devices.

The project ended, the idea remains

Noxmap was created as a team university project and reached the stage of an extensive prototype. The application is not currently developed, maintained or made available to users. This website presents the original idea, functional scope and outcome of the work.
